Suspension of Disbelief: FIGHT CLUB

In the scene where Jack gets fired and then blames his boss for beating him up would he really walk out with a computer and free paychecks on the very same day? Wouldn't there be some kind of administrative adjudication process?

What, was Mr. Chesler the owner of the company, or something?
