Suspension of Disbelief: THE DEER HUNTER
I saw it when it first hit theaters and was blown away,
But I watched it recently on a premium cable channel, and I swear the scene where Mike uses the flamethrower against the NVA soldier had a lot more violence in the original screening. The NVA was cruelly killing women and children with impunity.
I remember that scene showing way more violence in theaters. I personally think it was re-edited after Michael Cimino's death to please Vietnam, or to please American socialists. The film suffers without those scenes. It has less impact.
And that sucks rubber donkey lungs.
